Country Director, Chad

About the role

The Country Director provides overall leadership for NRC’s operations in Chad, shaping strategic direction, ensuring effective programme delivery, and representing the organization with donors, partners and authorities.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse the political and humanitarian context and adapt programmes to ensure relevance and impact.
• Drive continuous improvement and innovation across education, ICLA, shelter, WASH and livelihoods programmes.
• Motivate, coach and empower staff, fostering a high‑performing Country Management Group.
• Uphold the highest standards of ethics, safeguarding and the Humanitarian Principles.
• Lead all advocacy efforts in Chad and contribute to regional and global advocacy initiatives.
• Develop and enforce policies that promote diversity and inclusion at all organisational levels.
• Provide vision, secure agreement on strategic priorities and act as a role model for the team.
• Participate actively in the Regional Management Group and collaborate with other country offices to strengthen the Central and West Africa region.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in humanitarian or development operations, preferably in conflict‑affected settings.
• Proven track record in leading large, multi‑disciplinary teams and managing complex donor portfolios.
• Strong knowledge of the Chad context, refugee response dynamics and the Lake Chad Basin.
• Demonstrated ability in resource mobilisation, advocacy and high‑level stakeholder engagement.
• Commitment to accountability, ethical standards and safeguarding principles.
