Head of Mission – Lead Plan International in Chad

About the role

Plan International is seeking an experienced, strategic and values‑driven Head of Mission to lead its humanitarian, development and advocacy portfolio in Chad. This senior leadership position will shape the organisation’s direction, ensure high‑quality programme delivery and represent Plan International as a leading voice for children and girls in a complex operating environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership for humanitarian, development and advocacy programmes, ensuring impact, accountability and alignment with children’s rights and gender equality goals.
• Set strategic direction, lead and develop a high‑performing team, and foster an inclusive culture that prioritises staff wellbeing and continuous learning.
• Strengthen partnerships with government authorities, donors, UN agencies, NGOs and community organisations, securing sustainable funding for programme growth.
• Oversee all country operations, including programme quality, financial stewardship, risk management, safety, security, safeguarding and organisational effectiveness.
• Ensure robust emergency preparedness and safe delivery of programmes in a fragile, conflict‑affected context.

Required profile

• Proven senior leader with extensive experience managing humanitarian and development programmes in fragile or conflict‑affected settings, preferably in West and Central Africa or the Sahel.
• Strong track record in donor engagement, business development, partnership management and organisational growth.
• Demonstrated expertise in security and risk management, localisation and working through partners.
• Fluency in both French and English.
• Experience contributing to regional strategy as part of a West and Central Africa leadership team.
