Technical Lead Physical AI

About the role

As a Technical Lead in Physical AI at ABB Robotics, you will drive the design and implementation of the full AI stack that powers next‑generation intelligent robots. Working in a hybrid model, you will bridge proof‑of‑concept research with industrial‑scale deployment, ensuring reliability, performance and commercial viability.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end architecture of the AVR/Physical AI stack, integrating robotics, AI and software into a unified, scalable system.
• Design intelligent systems that combine real‑time embedded control, edge‑level perception and decision‑making, and cloud‑driven learning, orchestration and data pipelines.
• Translate technical vision into modular architectures, defining components and interfaces that meet production‑grade performance.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to maintain architectural integrity, evaluate technologies and act as the go‑to expert for Physical AI solutions.
• Lead the development of high‑performance, low‑latency AI solutions that scale across robots, environments and customers.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in a relevant field such as AI, robotics, computer science or electrical engineering.
• 8–12+ years of experience building complex AI, robotics or related systems.
• Proven ability to lead technical architecture and guide multidisciplinary engineering teams.
